PTPTN repayments on target

PTPTN repayments on target

KUALA LUMPUR: Student loan repayments to the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) are “on target” so far towards the expected projection of RM2 billion, its chairman Wan Saiful Wan Jan said last night.

He said PTPTN is stepping up efforts to ensure that borrowers paid back their loans.

“We have some plans to help ease the process (of paying back the loans) for students but we will announce that later when the plan is complete,” he said.

He said the Education Ministry would decide on the various proposals submitted and PTPTN as the implementing agency would carry out the ministry’s decision.

Wan Saiful was at a handing-over of student loan advances (Wang Pendahuluan Pinjaman) to 359 students in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya who received RM1,500 each to help them prepare for university life.

A total of 20,716 students will be offered the loan advance for the September intake into public universities.

Malaysian students whose parents are recipients of Bantuan Sara Hidup receive the WPP to help with the costs of preparing for university, such as purchasing clothes and paying for transport, among others.

Wan Saiful added that PTPTN was considering an increase in the WPP amount from the current RM1,500 per head.
