Private hospitals: We have ran out of influenza vaccines

KUALA LUMPUR: Residents around Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya areas took their frustrations to social media, claiming there was an acute shortage of influenza vaccine in healthcare facilities.

A social media user called JongWoonie ReXza, she could not procure the vaccine around Klang Valley.

“It seems the vaccines are only available at private health facilities.

“Health Ministry please monitor and take action,” she said.

Another social media user by the name Syukri Sairon said the vaccines and medication are hard to get these days.

“The number of people infected with the disease are increasing but there are no medication.

“What is the Health Ministry doing?” he asked.

Another media social user by the name Topec said his son recently got infected by influenza but was livid when he could not get the medication needed.

“There are no medication provided by the clinic when I took my son fro treatment,” he said.

Following the complaints, The Leaders Online visited several private hospitals around Klang Valley and the investigations confirmed the netizens’ complaints.

A staff from Columbia Asia Hospital in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur said they have run out of influenza vaccines for some time now..

“We don’t have influenza vaccine stocks at the moment and we don’t know when we are getting it,” she said, who requested anonymity.

The spokesperson said the hospital charges RM150 for vaccination, including consultation fees.

Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) also confirmed that they have ran out of influenza vaccine stock since last week.

“I don’t know if the stock have arrived today or not,” she said.
