Pressure your MPs to make their stand over Lynas

KUANTAN: Bentong MP Wong Tack, an anti Lynas activist, has called upon Malaysians to pressure their elected representatives to state their stand over the Australian rare earth plant firm.

“I urge the people to download the petition uploaded to Himpunan Hijau’s website, and put the MPs on record whether they are with the people on the Lynas issue,” he said at the anti Lynas rally held this morning by Save Malaysia Stop Lynas group in Taman Gelora, Kuantan.

To a question, he also said there is a need to name and shame the cabinet members who agreed to the issuance of a 6-months operating license to Lynas.

“Definitely, so (the people) know who are the MPs and ministers (still) with the people,” he said.

Pakatan Harapan had come to power in GE14, among others, on the promise to shut down Lynas.  The coalition however has given a six months approval to the firm despite consistent opposition by SMSL.

Wong Tack and Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh who is also Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department were among lawmakers who had campaigned against Lynas prior to the general election.

Sungai Pelek state assemblyman Ronnie Liu of Selangor meanwhile urged the Prime Minister Dr Mahathir to explain why the government made such a decision on Lynas.

“This was a wrong decision to be made by the cabinet,” he said.

“Why did he want Lynas to stay? I don’t know, the prime minister must explain,” he said.

Prior to the cabinet decision, Entrepreneur Development Minister Mohd Redzuan Yusof are among ministers supportive of the rare earth firm.
