PPIM: Muslim consumers must use Muslim products
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) chief activist Datuk Nadzim Johan called upon Muslim consumers to use products made by Muslims.
“Why should we buy products by non-Muslims when there are equivalent products by Muslims?”
He made the remark at the launch of Buy Muslim Products Campaign that was held at Megaview Banquet in KL Tower.
He also said that many Muslims purchase and consume food at outlets that do not display the halal logo.
“This doesn’t make sense at all. There is no reason for us to buy food from non-Muslims. Please give me the reasons on why we should eat at outlets where the food is prepared by non-Muslims,”he said.
He added that he was not a racist in making such a call.
“Look for Muslims. We are not racist. We are merely promoting promoting products from Muslims to Muslims,”he said.
Nadzim also said that he believed the weaknesses of the Muslim community today is due to non halal and bad food.
“This is really dangerous. Please change. If we don’t change, don’t expect others to do so. There is no reason for others to change us.
“We should fortify ourselves. So today we relook at what needs to be done to ensure that the products we have are shariah compliant,” he said.
Nadzim viewed the event that was co-organised by Gerakan Pembela Ummah as a leap forward to raise the economy of the Muslim community.
He hoped the effort would also forge closer ties among Malaysian of various races and reduce the economic gap.
The activist hoped that this campaign is not politicised.
“If possible, we should ensure there are no political issues surrounding this. Nothing on politics at all. Don’t be mistaken,” he said.
He was hopeful of a positive result within the next three to four months.
