Popular 70’s singer Dahlan Zainuddin dies

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular 70’s singer, Datuk Dahlan Zainuddin, passed away yesterday at 9.48pm at the Selayang Hospital after suffering from stroke.

He was 78.

The news was detailed by his wife, Datin Effa Rizan, when contacted by Bernama.

She said that the legendary singer’s remains will be taken to the Bangsar Mosque before burial at the Bukit Kiara Cemetery after Zohor prayers today.

Dahlan leaves behind three children. They are Natasha Idha, 40, Mohd Danial, 35 and Athinia Ines, 24.

The veteran singer, who once worked with the English daily New Straits Times, first found fame by winning Best Performance at Bintang RTM 1975.

Among the highlights of his career was being the first Malaysian artiste to have a major concert at Stadium Negara in 1978.

Dahlan’s best-known songs include Kisah Seorang Biduan and Joget Kaki Lima.
