Policeman charged with gang robbery in Cheras

KUALA LUMPUR: A police constable pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge with committing gang robbery at a flat in Cheras last week.

Mohamad Hazani Omar, 30, who is with the Kuala Lumpur police contingent, made the plea before judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid.

He was charged with two men still at large, and another who has been charged, with gang robbing Syaifulyazan Hassan, 57, of two gold bracelets and cash amounting to RM275.

The offence was allegedly committed at 1 am at Sri Melaka Flat on Oct 13.

The charge, framed under Section 395 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years and is liable to whipping, if found guilty.

Mohamad Hazani, unrepresented was allowed bail of RM6,000 in one surety and also ordered to not intimidate the victim.

He was also imposed a home curfew of between 11 pm to 6 am daily until the disposal of the case.

Deputy public prosecutor Noor Dayana Mohamad prosecuted.

Meanwhile, graphic designer Muhammad Faizal Mohd Azman, 21, who is jointly charged with Mohamad Hazani, pleaded not guilty and claimed to the charge on gang-robbery.

He also pleaded not guilty to a charge with impersonating as a senior police officer and another charge with unlawful possession of articles supplied to police officers, an offence under Section 89 of the Police Act 1967, which provides a maximum fine of RM500, or imprisonment for up to six months, or both if convicted.

Ememila Kaswati did not allow bail for Muhammad Faizal and set Nov 13 for mention of both cases.
