Police seize 1.8 tonnes of ketum leaves hidden in cowshed

PADANG BESAR: General Operations Force (PGA) has seized 1.8 tonnes of ketum leaves in 76 sacks which were hidden in a cowshed in Kampung Sena, near here.

PGA central brigade commander SAC Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji said two local men, aged 23 and 37, were arrested in the Op Wawasan Kedah/Perlis at about 10.45 pm yesterday.

He said a PGA team on patrol near Felda Lubuk Sireh had spotted a man driving a Naza Citra car in a suspicious manner.

“The PGA squad then trailed the car and when it stopped at the cowshed, they surrounded the car and detained the driver, who was believed to be involved in smuggling ketum leaves to neighbouring countries,” he said in a statement today.

Ghani said a tussle broke out between police officers and another suspect who tried to escape but failed.

He said besides ketum leaves, police also seized two weighing scales, two cars including a four-wheel drive and two handphones worth a total of RM310,200.
