Police report against possible water saboteurs

PUCHONG: National Water Services Commission (SPAN) has lodged police reports over two water contamination incidents that have taken place at water treatment plant between July 19 and 21. The reports were lodged on the basis that it may have taken place due to saboteurs.

“We hope the police can investigate saboteur elements in both the cases,” said SPAN chairman Charles Santiago in a statement after lodging a police report at 10am this morning.

The first incident was odour pollution that led to the closure of Sungai Selangor Water Treatment Plant Phase 1,2 and 3 and the Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plant on Friday.

The second incident was diesel contamination due to sand mining that led to the closure of four water treatment plants.

Charles called for governments at all levels to bring an end to economic activities around rivers, especially rivers that are source of water for the people’s daily activities.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd has a deadline until 9pm on July 26 to restore water supply.

Charles had previously warned that the failure to meet the deadline would lead to management changes in Air Selangor.
