Police fire two shots during raid in Sungai Siput

IPOH: Police had to fire two shots at the tyres of a car driven by a man suspected to be a drug dealer after he tried to escape during a raid on a house in Salak Baru, Sungai Siput this afternoon.

Sungai Siput District Police chief Supt Mohd Khaizam Ahmad Shahabudin said the 12.30 pm raid was conducted by two teams from the Sungai Siput and Kuala Kangsar District Narcotics Crime Investigation Divisions.

He said the shots were fired in self-defence after the suspect, who was driving a Proton Wira, reversed the car recklessly and endangered the lives of the police personnel.

“Police shot the front and back tyres but the suspect managed to drive off before ending up in a ditch after two kilometres and was apprehended,” he told Bernama tonight.

He said police also detained three men and seized heroin weighing 29.1 grams worth RM1,500 in the raid on the house.

Checks revealed that all four suspects, who are in their 40s, have criminal records for various offences and the case will be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, he said.
