Police arrest two DAP reps, one NGO leader for links with LTTE

PUCHONG: The police have arrested two DAP leaders and an NGO leader for alleged links to the now defunct, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam LTTE).

Those arrested were Melaka state executive councillor G Saminathan, Seremban Jaya state assemblyperson P Gunasekaren and a leader from a Perak-based NGO.

The trio were arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma), which allows for detention for 28 days.

LTTE was a militant movement originating from Sri Lanka. It was involved in decades long civil war with the Sri Lankan government to champion the rights of the Tamil minorities in the island.

The group became defunct after Sri Lankan troops crushed the movement and killed its leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran in 2009.

The police are expected to release a statement on the arrests later today.
