PKR Youth chief urges elected reps to get closer to grassroots ahead of elections
MELAKA, Aug 15 — Elected leaders need to build strong networks with the community at the grassroots level to ensure that relationships with the people are always maintained, said Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim.
He said close relationships with the community were also important to enable leaders and party to convey the right narrative, thus warding off negative perceptions that may be created by the other side.
“Our presence is important, our narrative is important, our machinery is important, our communication is important. Community relations and our networks at the grassroots level are also important,” he said when wrapping up the debate on the AMK Chief’s Policy Address in conjunction with 2026 AMK National Congress here yesterday.
Muhammad Kamil said preparations for the election should not only focus on the narrative at the national level, but also take into account issues and needs of the community at the local level.
In the meantime, he urged leaders at the local level to increase programmes and activities with members at the grassroots level, especially new members to instil an understanding of the party’s ideals and struggles.
He said the effort was important to ensure members understood their duties and responsibilities and the reasons for choosing the party’s platform for struggle.
“There was no effort to polish idealism, to make our new members understand the duties and responsibilities and the reasons why we are here and have chosen this platform for struggle.
“This is what we fear, that in the end we may slowly deviate from the path of this struggle,” he said.
