Pioneers in education funds make us worthy of GLA
National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) deputy chief executive officer for policy and operation Mastura Mohd Khalid reasoned that her organization deserves the Global Leadership Awards in Education Support because PTPTN are pioneers in providing education loans.
The Global Leadership Awards is presented to global leaders representing the diplomatic, business, government, philanthropic, media, celebrity and social sectors.
“I think because I am leading an organization which is a main provider for financing higher education in Malaysia. We also have a special product to encourage families to have financial planning for their families planning higher education called Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional or SSPN.”
The PTPTN award winning recipient pointed out that a major challenge for PTPTN is to ensure there is enough money to give children for higher education in the future.
“The challenge now is how to ask the existing borrower their repayment. With that repayment only we can make sure that PTPTN is sustainable and we still can give loans to future students.”
As a woman, she acknowledged the fact that industry players are overwhelmingly male.
“I have to make sure I have a strategy and put my organization at the right place at the right time.”
She also spoke about how she goes about making leaders out of her staff.
“The most important thing is teamwork. If we have a good team, we do mentor and group assignments we can promote team leaders in any of the assignments.
“That will help to produce more leaders in the organization.
