Petronas urged to review SOP, improve ERP after the recent fire incident
KOTA TINGGI: Petronas has been urged to review the standard operating procedures (SOP) and improve its Emergency Response Plan (ERP), following a fire incident at the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) which killed five people last night.
Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said, the country’s oil and gas company was also urged to carry out more awareness and early education programmes on disaster management.
She said at the same time, the safety of workers and the surrounding population should be prioritised.
Azalina said, she believed that the locals were beginning to panic and worry about their safety as it was the second fire in less than a year. The first fire incident was in April last year.
“Such incidents should be avoided as it is the government mega project that costs billions of ringgits. It is feared that such incidents will affect the confidence of potential investors and stakeholders.
“I believe in the credibility of Petronas in solving this problem.
“I call on all parties including the federal government, state government, and local authorities to work together to resolve the issue,” she said in a statement here today.
