Perak to host ITF World Junior Under-18 Championships

IPOH: Twenty-five countries will compete in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Junior Under-18 Championships at the Perak Tennis Arena here from April 21-28.
State Youth Development and Sports Committee chairman Howard Lee Chuan How said that among the countries taking part were the United States, Japan, Australia, Russia, Taiwan, Indonesia, India, New Zealand, South Korea, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
“The hosting of this international-level tournament will help make Ipoh an international sporting destination in line with the state government’s objectives and direction. It can also be a stepping stone for local players to take on international players and raise their standard,” he told a press conference today.
He also said that the Professional Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA) would hold a Mini Tennis Clinic, run by expert coaches, during the championships as a means of providing early exposure to the sport among children.
He said that among the sponsors for the championships were the state government, the State Sports Council, Ipoh City Council, Lost World of Tambun and Putrade Allsuites Golf Club.
