IPOH: The Perak Narcotic Crimes Investigation Department (JSJN) seized various drugs worth RM11.8 million and arrested 1,824 people for drug-related offences, from Jan 1 to Feb 24 this year.

Perak JSJN chief ACP Lee King Chuan said, the drugs seized were syabu (90.4 kilogrammes), ketamine (11.2 kg), ecstasy (185,466 pills), Erimin 5 (648 pills) and five Yaba pills.

Traditional drugs such as cannabis weighing 498 grammes, as well as 5.6 kg of heroin were also confiscated.

“A total of 980 individuals were arrested for drug possession, 411 for storing drugs, while 400 tested positive for drugs and 33 others were detained under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act,” he said, during a press conference at the Perak Police Contingent headquarters here today.

Lee said police also seized assets worth RM2.2 million during the same period.

Meanwhile, on Monday, police detained a local couple believed to be involved in drug trafficking in Kampung Selamat in Sitiawan, about 100 kilometres from here, and seized various types of drugs worth RM134,420 from a house where they lived.

“The man, a contractor in his 40s, and his wife, in her 30s, were arrested at about 3.30pm. A physical examination of the man found 75 grammes of syabu.

“Upon a further search of the house, police also found 2.1 kg of syabu, heroin (254 grammes), 44 ecstasy pills and 155 grammes of suspected drug substances,” he said.

Police also found cash amounting to RM44,100 and seized two vehicles believed to belong to the couple.

The husband and wife tested positive for methamphetamine in urine tests, and have been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Lee said investigations found that the couple had been trafficking drugs for the past 10 months, while the seized drugs were sufficient to supply the needs of about 12,000 addicts around Sitiawan.
