PAS to govt: Don’t extend PLUS’ concession
PAS would like to urge the federal government to review the 20 year concession extension given to PLUS Malaysia Bhd’s (PLUS) until 2058.
Even though the 18% toll reduction without compensation will be effective from February 1, the 20 year extension is unreasonable.
This shows that the Pakatan Harapan government failed to abolish toll rates gradually and making matters worse, extended the concession period.
PLUS is a strategic asset of Khazanah Nasional Berhad and it has to look for the best mechanism to protect the interests of the people.
PAS believes that Khazanah Nasional Berhad managing director’s insistence in preventing PLUS from being sold to private sector is laudable. However, the people will continue to be burdened with the concession period extension and it is not in line with the initial intention of acquiring PLUS in 2011.
The federal government acquired PLUS from the private sector through UEM and EPF in 2011 to restructure the one-sided concession agreement that had been signed in the 1990s.
At least, PLUS did not raise toll rates in the last 10 years and the government did not pay the RM6.5 billion in compensation.
