PAS MP sent out of Parliament for refusing to retract malicious remark
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — PAS Pengkalan Chepa MP Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary was ejected from the Dewan Rakyat after he refused to adhere to Deputy Speaker Alice Lau’s ruling.
Lau had ordered for Ahmad Marzuk to leave the lower House after his remark towards Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming raised questions of malicious intent.
“I have made a ruling for Pengkalan Chepa to retract his remark as it is deemed malicious intent, but he said that he wants to send in a motion,” Lau told the Dewan Rakyat.
She however proceeded to send Ahmad Marzuk as more arguments surrounding the matter arose.
The Pengkalan Chepa had asked the Religious Affairs Minister if the Department of Islamic Development should educate ministers such as Nga on Islam to prevent misunderstandings that lead to stigma towards Muslims.
“Pengkalan Chepa, please leave and rest for a day,” Lau said.
During the winding up speech of the Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, the Pengkalan Chepa MP stood up to interject saying that there are confusion and islamophobia out there, and they are caused by a misunderstanding of Islam.
“(They) don’t understand, not only among the community outside there, (but) even among the ministers.
“How many times did Teluk Intan (Teluk Intan MP Nga Kor Ming) posted on the taliban and so on. Did the Minister (Religious Minister) try to explain among the Cabinet ministers previously? I’m referring to the Qunut Nazilah prayer.
“I wanted to ask, if matters like this (Qunut Nazilah prayer) should be handled by the agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department, such as JAKIM, to give a clear explanation — even among the ministers themselves, sometimes they don’t understand the Qunut Zanilah prayer,” Ahmad Marzuk said.
Qunut Nazilah is recited when Muslims are struck by fear of tragedies, calamities, epidemics and similar occurrences of such situations.
When he was given the floor to defend his remarks, the Pengkalan Chepa MP said in reference to Nga’s post on social media, there were misunderstanding, indicating that Nga did not understand the struggles of the Palestines who are fighting for their homeland and independence.
“What do you want me to retract? There is proof. I will not retract.
“What do you want me to retract, what did I say? Which wording should be retracted it must be very specific.
“…I have the right to disagree with the Speaker’s ruling and I will make a motion, I will not retract,” Ahmad Marzuk said.
Responding to PAS’ Parit Buntar MP Mohd Misbahul Munir Masduki, who earlier asked if the government could allow recitation of the takbir and the Qunut Nazilah prayer in schools, Mohd Na’im said there was no ban enforced.
He explained that Islamophobia stemmed from the lack of understanding of the global issue, referring to the ongoing attacks by the Zionist regime against Palestinians in Gaza.
The Minister also assured that the government will continue to provide explanations to show that Islam is a religion based on peace, unity and promotes harmony among the society of different races, religions and cultures.
