Pakatan to lose if GE15 held tomorrow
GOMBAK: Bersatu policy and strategy bureau chief Datuk Rais Hussin admitted that Pakatan Harapan would become the federal opposition if the 15th general election (GE15) is held tomorrow due to the lack of euphoria that was prominent shortly after the GE14.
He pointed out that many issues such as unemployment, cost of living and misplaced priorities that affect the majority community – the Malays would determine the results of GE15.
“We have to start listening to the Rakyat. We are now doing what BN used to do, we are failing. We think we have power, therefore (the recent by-election results that went against Pakatan) are insignificant.
“We may have about three years left (before the next general election), but if we do nothing, what’s going to happen then?
“Given the current sentiments, if we are to have the general election tomorrow, the new pact of Umno and PAS will win, hands down,” he said in the Post-GE14 By-Elections: Implications for GE15 forum held in International Islamic University this morning.
“The thing is, Pakatan has stopped listening to the people,” he added.
He added that the triple defeat in the by-elections of Cameron Highlands, Semenyih and Rantau could be used as a yardstick on how the ruling coalition would fare in GE15 which is slated to take place in 2023.
“Yes, the by-elections can be an indicator if Pakatan does not do anything different from what they are doing now. However, Pakatan still have three years to address the issues, and they can correct them,” he said.
He also called upon Pakatan to focus on five core issues to ensure it does not become one hot wonder. The five are: cost of living, quality of living, jobs, affordable homes and affordable healthcare.
He also played down the government’s decision move to lower down voting age since young voters are not “brand loyal”.
“It’s a double-edged sword, and can be used against PH. The youth couldn’t care less about the parties, what they want is credible jobs,”
