Over 1 million trees planted in Perak throughout 2020
IPOH: The Perak state government has throughout this year planted some 1.21 million trees in all permanent forest reserve (HSK) areas.
Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said this environmental initiative will continue in line with the campaign to plant 100 million trees over five years, starting next year being led by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in collaboration with the Forestry Department Peninsular Malaysia and state forestry departments.
“The objective of this campaign is to maintain and increase greenery throughout the country as well as to protect trees and conserve forests.
“Fostering a love of nature and awareness on the importance of trees must be enhanced in ensuring that forests cover at least 50 per cent of the country’s land area,” he told a press conference after the state-level greening programme at Kledang Saiong Forest Eco Park in Bandar Meru Raya here today
In addition Saarani said the Perak Forestry Department has launched the Green Earth Programme as one of the platforms to encourage tree planting activities among private companies.
He said through the programme, tree planting and conservation activities were carried out at the Chikus Forest Reserve, Sungai Manik, Teluk Intan which saw about 15,000 trees being planted.
“The state government welcomes cooperation or contribution of ideas to help promote greening and forest conservation activities in Perak either in forest reserve areas or state government land,” he added.
