Online petition against new govt, Twitteraties slam Dr M for political turmoil

PUCHONG: A private citizen, Chung Shin Ho started a petition via Change.org entitled ‘Malaysians do not support a backdoor government’ following Perikatan Nasional wresting federal power from Pakatan Harapan.

The petition, which has garnered 167,000 signatures at the time of reporting, is described as the following:

“Malaysians do not support a backdoor government, it is a betrayal of the trust and mandate of the rakyat given to Pakatan Harapan leaders.

“This is a selfish action to benefit a few elite groups to usurp the welfare and confidence of the rakyat for a stable and peaceful Malaysia.

“I humbly request His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to halt this greedy and self serving attempt for the benefit, betterment and mutual prosperity of all Malaysians.

“Political instability will hurt economic growth, and all Malaysians.

“Therefore, the rakyat’s request is for a stable and promised transition of power within Pakatan Harapan, ensuring economic stability and consequently, mutual prosperity for all Malaysians,” it said.

On Twitter today, Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir was seen endorsing the petition and calls for a change.

However, not all Twitteraties were in support of Mukhriz’s endorsement of the petition.

Many vented out their fury against Mukhriz’s father, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, saying that it was the latter who caused the Pakatan Harapan government to fall.

User Valentino Rosak said “This is not backdoor…your dad is the one who opened the door, he resigning hence PM post is vacant so everyone fight for it and finally TSMY got it…just telling (bgtaw je) in case you’re not aware what happened”.

Another user Larry The Barista said, “One more…don’t create these type of petition and show yourself as innocent and that you are people’s voice..Because of your father YB, we rakyat became like this…”

Meanwhile, user Ariasu said that Perikatan Nasional did not grab power via ‘backdoor’ and Mahathir should be well aware of it.

“Aiyoo, your daddy started all this nonsense and now you want to drag all the people, move on bro,” said another user Nashjaff.

Last week, the Pakatan Harapan lost federal power after Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad resigned as prime minister and his pary, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia left the ruling coalition and joined Perikatan Nasional.

The move caused a massive political turmoil, leading the Yang di-Pertuan Agong appointing Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the new prime minister.

Muhyiddin is yet to name his Cabinet team.
