Nonsense- Gombak OCPD remarks on Ganapathy

Gombak OCPD Arifai Tarawe is talking nonsense when he says; just because the deceased never complained of assault when he was brought before a magistrate three times on Feb 25, March 2 and March 6 as well as before Medical Officer on Feb 28, March 3, March 6 and March 7, therefore assault did not take place? The OCPD comment that there is no evidence that A Ganapathy passed away due to assault while under police custody is premature and could be seen as obstruction of justice.

Firstly at all times, Ganapathy was on police custody and that he would have been terrified to say anything knowing very well that he would be in the same policemen’s custody after revealing anything. Most logical thinking people would have rationalised and concluded why the deceased remained silent.

That is why, we need an IPCMC because who is going to investigate the assault now? Which witness are going to come forward in such a case. Now the OCPD can convincingly say things because the dead man can no longer defend himself. The most decent thing for the OCPD to do is to say that investigation is ongoing and allow due process such as inquest to determine the cause of death. While the OCPD is asking the public not to speculate, he should also not do likewise.

PSM calls upon an Independent inquiry to be conducted and that all policemen involved with the case should be suspended or given leave until the matter is resolved. As an immediate move, the case have to be investigated by a team not linked to IPD Gambak.
