No lèse-majesté law for Msia
KUALA LUMPUR: The government does not plan to enact a special law for the royal institution like the lèse-majesté law in Thailand, Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Home Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said provisions under existing laws were sufficient, although he acknowledged the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia was planning to review current acts to protect the sanctity of the royal institution.
“We will scrutinise provisions under Sedition Act 1948 and there are suggestions to place it under the Penal Code. When this is brought to Cabinet, we will examine if its well judged to make
amendments or strengthen the legislation,” he said.
