Nga: PM’s Question Time to take place in the next sitting

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Nga Kor Ming assured MPs that the August House will have the Prime Minister’s Question Time slot.

However, he said the slot will only take place latest by the next Dewan Rakyat sitting, which runs from Oct to Dec.

On June 24, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Liew Vui Keong said there was no need for a special slot for the prime minister to answer questions in the Parliament.

The minister said that the current Minister’s Question Time, which runs for 30 minutes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, were sufficient.

Liew’s statement drew brickbats from civil society movements, with Bersih 2.0 reminding Liew that the Prime Minister’s Question Time was among Pakatan Harapan’s promise in its manifesto.

Defending the government, Nga said that Pakatan was committed to parliamentary reforms as promised in its manifesto.

He cited the asset declaration motion by MPs that was passed on Monday to prove that the government was committed to reforms.

Nga added that the Prime Minister’s Question Time would be similar to the one practised in the United Kingdom, held for 30 minutes every Wednesdays.
