Nazir Ariff appointed as SME Bank’s chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: SME Bank, an agency under the Entrepreneur Development Ministry, has appointed Datuk Seri Nazir Ariff as its new non-executive chairman, effective yesterday.

As a corporate figure, Nazir, 73, has vast experience in various industries which among others include, banking, property, mining and commodity, the bank said in a statement.

Majoring in accountancy from the United Kingdom, he is also a Fellow of the British Institute of Management. 

As an entrepreneur, Nazir is the co-founder of the Aspen (Group) Holdings Limited and currently its executive deputy chairman.

Prior to this, he was the deputy chairman / executive director at Ivory Properties Group Bhd from 2006 until 2013. 

SME Bank group president cum chief executive officer Aria Putera Ismail said the appointment of Nazir as chairman is timely as his vast experience in the corporate and business sectors is expected to assist and lead the transformation of SME Bank towards sustainable and effective development.
