Najib trial: Judge orders no more delay

KUALA LUMPUR: High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali ordered for Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s trial to commence despite an application filed by the defence team this morning.
Lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah acting on behalf of the former Prime Minister earlier told the High Court that the defence team filed a notice of motion to challenge the charges faced by Najib.
Mohd Nazlan in ordering for the trial to proceed said there was no requirement for the application to be heard now since it was only filed this morning.
He said he would fix a later date for the application to be heard.
Attorney-General Tommy Thomas earlier said the defence’s action in filing the notice at the 11th hour was yet another tactic to delay the trial.
Najib’s charges were then read again in court before the prosecution delivers its opening statement.
He faces seven charges relating to criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering involving RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd’s funds.
