Najib Trial: Ex – premier’s cheques recipients revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: Ambank’s cheque processing centre senior manager Badron Hisham Mohd confirmed that a series of cheques from Ambank and AmIslamic that was cashed. The cheques is believed to be from from former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Under Najib’s AmBank account number 202-201190-6, a cheque of RM1 million was issued to Badan Perhubungan Umno Negeri Pulau Pinang on February 26, 2015, while a RM300,000 cheque was issued to Umno Bahagian Johor Bahru on February 26, 2015.

Under this same account, a RM1 million cheque was issued on February 13, 2015, to United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation.

Under a separate Najib account 202-201189-8, a cheque for RM3.5 million was issued on January 21, 2015, to the law firm of Hafarizam Wan & Aishah Mubarak. The legal firm is the firm that has been representing Umno.

Other cheques include the following:
Ihsan Perdana for RM103,000, dated March 9, 2015;
Trustees of Rumah Penyayang Tun Abdul Razak for RM400,000, dated Feb 12, 2015;
Centre for Strategic Engagement Sdn Bhd for RM300,000, dated Feb 8, 2015;
Johor Bahru Umno for RM300,000, dated Feb 26, 2015; and
Law firm Zulqarnain & Co for RM2.5 million, dated Feb 2 2015.

Najib’s defence counsel Harvinderjit Singh demanded Badron to produce evidence that the cheques were issued from Ambank accounts.

“We are asking (for the witness to produce the documentation), as these accounts are the subject of the charges (against Najib), and as we want to show that the cheques were cleared.

“I will be producing money trail charts, among others, during the course of the trial,” the lawyer explains.

Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali allowed Badron to puoduce the evidence at a later date.
