Najib Trial: Application to quash charges dismissed

KUALA LUMPUR: High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali dismissed the application to quash the seven charges related to SRC International made by defendant, former premier, Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“There is no suggestion that the accused is misled or confused,” he said, adding that there are no defects in the charges.

He pointed out that Najib’s claim that the charges are unclear and that there has been abuse of court process is unsubstantiated.

Nazlan in his ruling said that claims by the defence that the charges were unclear and abuse of court process has not been substantiated even though the prosecution has given document access to Najib.

The trial proper into Najib’s alleged offences involving SRC International was put on hold due to Najib’s defence application that the charges were misleading.

Najib is facing three counts of criminal breach of trust, three counts of money laundering and one count of abuse of power under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

This wasn’t the first time the trial proper was postponed due to technicalities.

The trial will kick off today with the defence’ cross-examination of prosecution witness, AmBank Raja Chulan branch manager R Uma Devi.
