Najib: Media Prima out of Umno’s control

KUALA LUMPUR: Media Prima Bhd wasn’t controlled effectively by Umno and that led the party to sell off its shares to Malay tycoon Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary, said Pekan MP Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Singling out Media Prima’s English newspaper, The New Straits Times Press he even claimed that the daily was not friendly to Umno.

“It is a necessity for Umno to so…

“Media Prima is not within Umno’s effective control,” he told reporters when met at the sidelines of his court hearing.

He said this in response to reports about Umno selling its 11.09 percent stake to Syed Mokhtar yesterday.

“As a political party, we have to plan for the future. So, many things have been going on with regards to our investments.

“But I can’t comment (on the restructuring of its investment portfolio), because it is all confidential, and involves other shareholders,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today
