Najib accuses DAP of racist banner, gets Mandarin translation wrong

PUCHONG: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today accused DAP of playing the religious card by claiming that the Umno-PAS tie-up, or Muafakat Nasional, was equivalent to Talibanism.

In a Facebook post, Najib posted a picture of a Mandarin language banner placed in Tanjung Piai, which he claimed was placed by DAP to link Umno-PAS to Talibanism.

“Equating Muafakat Nasional with Talibanism. This is a dirty and disgusting campaign by the DAP.

“The banner clearly violates the law but local authorities seem to ignore it.

“Dear voters, please send a message to Pakatan Harapan that the people will reject their racist and religious provocation,” said the Pekan MP.

The banner shows the faces of top Umno and PAS leaders, alongside the picture of the slain Al-Qaeda supremo Osama bin Laden.

However, a check by The Leaders Online shows that the banner does not equate Umno and PAS leaders to Talibanism.

The Mandarin caption reads, “Vote for MCA or Barisan is a vote for PAS= Religious extremism. Vote for Umno= Racial extremism.”

Voting for Tanjung Piai by-election is scheduled for tomorrow.
