Muhyiddin Yassin appointed new PM
PUCHONG: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been sworn in as the eighth Prime Minister.
The swearing-in ceremony has ended the political turmoil that has plagued the country since February 22. His Excellency, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, today, unveiled the ceremony of awarding the instrument of appointment and taking the oath of office of the eighth Prime Minister to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at the State Palace.
Also present at the ceremony was the empress of His Majesty the Queen, Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah. Also present were Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali and Muhyiddin’s wife, Mrs Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman.
On February 24, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad sent a letter of resignation as the seventh Prime Minister to Al-Sultan Abdullah. The same day he accepted the resignation and agreed to appoint Dr Mahathir as interim Prime Minister.
The appointment is pending the appointment of a new Prime Minister in accordance with Article 43 (2) (a) of the Federal Constitution. As interim prime minister, Dr Mahathir was in charge of managing the country until a new prime minister was appointed and a cabinet was formed.
Almost a week since the resignation of the statesman, a political polemic broke out between party blocs and various other surprises witnessed by the people. Today’s historic event concludes the polemic and furthers the Malaysian administrative system as a constitutional monarchy.
