Missing logger feared attacked by wild animal

KAPIT: A staff at a logging firm who was carrying out tree marking work in the Ulu Sungai Melatai forest area in Baleh near here has gone missing since yesterday, and feared to have been attacked by a wild animal.

It is understood that the man who had just begun working for a small-scale logging company two weeks ago, was known as Kenek Antok.

A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said the man had entered the forest with nine other staff to carry out the works at 6 am yesterday.

He said all the other staff later returned to the camp by noon, except for the victim.

“At 3 pm a search was conducted by a group of workers in the forest and they found a bag believed to belong to the victim with traces of blood nearby,” he said, adding that the search and rescue operation would begin tomorrow morning.
