‘Missing’ GST refund report tabled tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee would be tabling the “missing” RM19.4bil Goods and Services Tax (GST) credit refund report tomorrow, a day before schedule, confirmed its chairman Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad.

“The decision to release the tabling of the report, which was initially scheduled on July 16, is to prevent any misconception over the report on the RM19.4bil GST credit refund,” she said in a statement.

She raised issue over the matter following a media report that was inaccurate on the matter.

The public can download a copy from the PAC website at www.parlimen.gov.my/pac on the same day.

Controversy over the credit refund was sparked off when Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng claimed that the former BN government misplaced the funds that resulted in it failing to refund companies their tax returns.

In response, Khairy Jamaluddin (Rembau-Umno) threatened to cite Lim to the Rights and Privileges Committee if the PAC did not find the case to be so.
