MISI Empowers Talent with Drone Maintenance and Repair Skills

KUALA LUMPUR, 22 February 2025 – The Malaysian Indian Skills Initiative (MISI) continues its mission to empower the Indian community by equipping individuals with high-value skills through the Drone Maintenance and Repair Proficiency Programme. The training session held from 16 – 20 February 2025 at the Institut Latihan Perindustrian Perai in Perai, Penang, aims to bridge the industry gap by preparing participants for income-generating opportunities in the rapidly growing drone sector.

The programme saw strong participation, highlighting the increasing demand for specialised drone training and reaffirming the government’s commitment to upskilling Malaysian Indian talent for future-ready careers.

An initiative under the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) through the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), MISI has successfully enrolled over 6,000 participants in high-demand fields such as Artificial Intelligence, smart farming, and drone technology, catering to industry needs for skilled professionals.

With the drone industry expanding rapidly across construction, agriculture, infrastructure and mining, certified drone maintenance specialists and operators can access better employment opportunities, higher earnings, and career progression.

The five-day (40-hour) training, certified by The Institute of Drone Technology (IDT), Australia, provides participants with hands-on experience in drone repair, maintenance, and autonomous operations, ensuring they meet global safety and industry standards.

Participants also expressed their appreciation for the initiative. One of the participants, R. Narrendra, 20, shared: “Drone technology is shaping the future of various industries and initiatives like this empower our workforce to be at the forefront of innovation.

“With drones being used widely in agriculture and inspection services, this certification gives me a competitive advantage in securing a job,” he added.

Another participant also shared his enthusiasm for the programme. K. Nalan, 20, who has been exploring career options, said: “This programme opens up new opportunities for me in exploring jobs in technology sector. I’m excited for this opportunity. Thank you Kerajaan Madani.”

Drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), are revolutionising business operations by enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and improving safety.

The programme will not only train participants in drone maintenance and repair but also equip them with essential knowledge on autonomous drone operations – ensuring they stay ahead in the evolving technological landscape.

MISI’s impact goes beyond employment, fostering entrepreneurship, lifelong learning, and career advancement, ensuring long-term success for Malaysian Indian. By empowering individuals, especially those with secondary or lower education, this initiative aligns with MISI’s mission to uplift the Malaysian Indian community through skills development, lifelong learning and employment opportunities.
