Melaka United look to Indonesia for pre-season

MELAKA: Melaka United will fly off to Indonesia next week to play a series of matches against several Indonesian League teams as preparations for the new Super League season.

The matches, to be played between Jan 28 and Feb 4, will be used to fine tune the squad’s coordination of play, Melaka United Football Association (MUSA) president Damian Yeo Shen Li said.

Melaka United will play Indonesia’s Liga 1 club, Persib Bandung while games against another two more clubs are currently being finalised.

Yeo said the team that head coach Zainal Abidin Hassan has assembled this season will need time to build an understanding on the pitch, and quality warm up games were important.

“The matches against good teams such as Persib Bandung will be the best test for our squad to gauge our level of play and also at the same time provide the players with more game exposure,” he told Bernama.

Meanwhile, in a statement, MUSA said for this season’s challenge, Melaka United has decided to rope in four youth players into the squad namely Shyamierul Razmee Jasmi, 21, Amirul Hamer, 21, Faizal Talib, 22 and Hazim Abu Zaid, 19.

All four had been part of Melaka United’s President Cup and Youth Cup campaigns last season, the association said.
