MCO: Woman who screamed ‘idiot’ at cop charged
PUCHONG: A sales manager claimed trial at the magistrate’s court here for uttering an insulting word against a policeman and for preventing civil servants from carrying out their duty while they were manning a roadblock on March 31.
Tong Poh Kim, 44, pleaded not guilty to the two charges which were read to Magistrate Nurshahira Abdul Halim.
The accused was charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing civil servants from performing their duties and Section 14 of the Minor Offenses Act 1955 for uttering insult to public servants.
The accused was charged with the act during a roadblock of OP Covid-19 enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) at Jalan Surian, Damansara-Kota Damansara on March 31, around 9.40am.
According to the first charge, the accused from Jalan Persiaran Surian to the Pelangi Damansara was found behaved disrespectfully towards a policeman named Corporal Izuan Hasim Nor Hamzah by saying ‘idiot’.
If convicted the accused can be fined not more than RM100.
In the second charge, the woman was charged on the same day, time and place with the intention of preventing the civil servant from carrying out his duty and serving up to two years and a fine of up to RM10,000 or both, if convicted.
The accused was represented by a lawyer, Datuk Suraj Singh, however, pleaded not guilty.
Deputy Public Prosecutor, Mohamad Firdaous Mohamed Idris, suggested that the accused can be allowed bail of RM1,000.
However, defence lawyer, called for the court to reduce the amount of his bail amount because the accused worked for only RM2,000.
Nurshahira allowed the accused bail of RM1,000 for the first charge and RM3,000 for the second charge with one surety and set May 20 as the date of submission of case documents and mentions.
