MCO: Two man were fined, jailed for inhibiting police

KOTA KINABALU: A man was sentenced to a 10-month jail while another man was slapped with RM6,000 fine by the Magistrate’s Court here, for obstructing police officers from discharging their duties during Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

They are the first individuals punished by Sabah court for the offence during the period of MCO in Sabah.

Yong Tze Hou, 26, who works at his family’s restaurant, was sentenced to 10 months’ jail while Injimar Abu Gafar, 33, was fined RM6,000 in default 10 months’ jail after they pleaded guilty to the charge read to them before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie.

Yong was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of arrest yesterday, while Injimar will be handed over to Immigration Department as he is a red identity card holder.

According to the charge sheet, Yong was charged with obstructing a civil servant, a policeman, from discharging his duty while patrolling between Jalan Kampung Cenderakasih and Jalan Bukit Bendera that lead to a car chase at 1.30am yesterday.

Meanwhile, Injimar was charged with obstructing another policeman, from discharging his duty at a roadblock, by refusing to cooperate and uttering insulting words to the policeman at Jalan Tuaran Batu 7, Inanam at 9.15pm on Monday.

Both were charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of two years or a maximum fine of RM10,000 or both.
