Maza’s official car torched
KANGAR: Outspoken Perlis mufti, Maza’s car a black Honda Accord, was torched in front of his residence in Jalan Persiaran Wawasan this morning. The bonnet was hit with a petrol bomb and the car windshield was also smashed.
Perlis police chief, Noor Mushar Mohd confirmed that the police received a distress call from Maza’s residence at 6.05 am. He did not rule out the possibility of foul play in this case involving the state religious leader whose real name is Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin.
“We are not ruling out the possibility of this case of foul play as we found that the mirror on the front and back was smashed on impact from the bottled petrol bomb which was meant to burn,” said Noor Mushar, reported Malay daily Berita Harian.
Maza’s torched car case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code.
Section 435 concerns mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage.
If found guilty, a person may be jailed for up to 14 years and shall be liable to a fine.
Maza meanwhile dismissed the possibility of any foul play based on the findings of the Fire and Rescue Department.
“According to them, it is a possibility that the fire started from the engine near the battery. No external factor was discovered.
“Whatever it is, let us wait for the official full report from the investigation of the police of forensic of the Fire and Rescue Department,” he said in a Facebook post.
