Man beats up grandma-in-law because his own daughter was crying

JASIN: A 69-year-old woman from Batang Melaka sustained serious facial injuries after she was assaulted by her grandson-in-law.
All because she did not immediately stop her great-granddaughter – the suspect’s own daughter – from crying.
Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Arshad Abu not only the 69-year-old victim was hit mercilessly by the 24-year-old suspect.
“This poor woman was beaten and berated with derogatory remarks,” he said.
Arshad said in the incident, which occurred at around 6am yesterday, the victim was at home when the eight-month-old girl started crying.
This, he said, caused the child’s father to become agitated and the assault ensued.
Arshad said the victim, a school canteen worker, passed out after being beaten up.
“After assaulting her, the suspect fled with his wife and child,” he said.
Arshad said the suspect is unemployed and the victim was supporting him with her RM250 monthly salary.
He also said the Jasin Hospital referred the victim to the Melaka Hospital to be checked by an eye specialist, adding that she was at risk of losing her eyesight due to the seriousness of her injuries.
The police had detained the perpetrator in Bachang at 11pm the same day.
Arshad said the man had two previous criminal records for drug abuse.
“He also tested positive for drugs when we screened him,” he said.
The case is being probed under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
