Malaysian Tigers recall 2018 World Cup qualifying success

KUALA LUMPUR: The sweet memory in 2017 when Malaysia qualified for the 2018 World Cup at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Stadium in London is the right dose of motivation for the Malaysian Tigers to seek a slot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Team captain, Mohamad Sukri Abdul Mutalib believed the memory gave Malaysia hopes to clinch a place in the 2020 Olympics.

“ We need to be confident with ourselves and the team and we are clear with the objective of coming to London. We need to relive the 2017 memories when we were least expected to make it to the World Cup final.

“The difficult situation is similar now. So we are hoping to achieve another feat to Tokyo Olympics,” he said at a media conference to announce the list of players for the Olympic qualifying squad on Nov 2 and 3

Malaysia are facing Great Britain on Nov 2 and 3, with the winners qualifying for Tokyo Olympics based on the aggregate results.
