Malaysian halal nail polish penetrates international market

PUTRAJAYA: POLISHED by Sama Sama, a product of the Sama Sama Spa under Natural Wellness Holdings Sdn Bhd, has gained acceptance in Japan and the United Kingdom.

The spa in Bukit Jelutong — which offers a manicure, pedicure and nail party service among other things — is a social enterprise for underprivileged young women.

Sama Sama Spa corporate communications and strategy head, Alisa Kandiah, said the water-permeable, wudhu-friendly and halal-certified nail polish is available at MyBotanG (a lifestyle store) in Nagoya, while a vendor is about to sign the contract for UK.

“The brand is in the midst of discussions with some interested parties and potential distributors in the Middle East, too,” said Alisa.

In Malaysia, the nail polish which comes in 103 colours ranging from pastel to sparkly, is available at the spa, selected Klang Valley boutiques like Modvier, Loka and Style Annexe, via online purchase at MySmink, and Halal & Co, as well as Instagram @POLISHEDbySamaSama.

Hoping to enter the international market, Alisa said the brand participated in the Natural & Organic Products Europe 2019 trade show and London Muslim Shopping Festival 2019, both last month.

Last year, POLISHED by Sama Sama participated in the Cosmetic 360 trade show in Paris and received a positive response.
