MAHB worker critically injured in accident at Subang airport runway

PETALING JAYA: An accident involving an airport engineering vehicle and a private aircraft occurred at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport runway in Subang early Monday.

A Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) said the driver of the vehicle was critically injured in the 3.20am incident, with the Airport Fire and Rescue Service team arriving at the scene one minute later.

“We are saddened that our employee, who was the driver of the vehicle, was critically injured. He is currently undergoing surgery and we are ensuring that he receives the best medical care, as we pray for his recovery,” MAHB said in a statement.

It added that the passengers and cabin crew of the aircraft were unharmed during the incident.

MAHB said some arriving flights were affected as they were held back at the airport of origin during the process of clearing the debris on the runway, with flight operations resuming at 9am.

“In the meantime, Malaysia Airports has formed an investigation team and is working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to investigate the root cause of the accident.

“The Transport Ministry has also activated its Air Accident Investigation division to carry out a thorough investigation of the incident,” it said.
