MACC summons Hisham over dubious land swap deals

PUCHONG: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has summoned former Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein to give a statement in regards to its probe into the land swap scandal.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki said former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had already given his statement on the matter.

“Besides Zahid and Hishammuddin, we may even call former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. He could be involved too.

“But we have to get evidence first,” he said, at the MACC headquarters today.

Last month, the Defence Ministry lodged a report with the MACC involving 16 dubious land swap deals involving the ministry.

The results came following an investigation and the findings were presented by the Committee on Investigation, Government Procurement and Finance, chaired by former auditor-general Tan Sri Ambrin Buang.

It is said that the government had lost more than RM500 million due to the dubious land swap deals since 1997.
