LTTE: Seremban Jaya rep Gunasekaren released

PUCHONG: The Kuala Lumpur High Court today released Seremban Jaya state assemblyman, P Gunasekaren from two charges for alleged links with Liberation of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) terrorist group.

Justices Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin and Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali issued the release order after the deputy public prosecutor, Suffian Jaafar informed the court that he had received instructions from the Attorney General to not proceed with the proceedings against Gunasekaren.

In Oct last year, the police arrested 12 suspects and detained them under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) 2012 for alleged links with LTTE.

Those arrested included two DAP state assemblymen; Melaka’s Gadek state assemblyman G Saminathan and Gunasekaran.

Gunasekaren was charged with supporting LTTE on his social media account.

Ramkarpal Singh, the lawyer who represented Gunasekaren, told the court that following the prosecution’s failure to pursue the case against his client, he requested that the accused be acquitted and released from both charges.
