Lee: Private hospital charges will ‘not be too high’ if consultancy fee spikes

KUALA LUMPUR : Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye assured that private hospital charges will not be too high if the government decides to increase consultancy charges.

He said the fee structure will be governed by the Private Healthcare and Facilities Act.

“They cannot charge more than what is stipulated in the Act,’ he said, after launching the ASEAN Health Summit 2019 at International Trade and Industry Ministry Tower here today.

Asean Business Advisory Council Malaysia Tan Sri Dr Mohd Munir Abdul Majid was also present.

He was commenting on private hospital charges, insisting that it should be compatible with the cost of living if the government decides to increase the consultancy fee.

Elaborating, Lee said the government is still deliberating on what would be the increased amount.

“The fee structure is already there but hasn’t been revised for almost 27 years,” he said.
