Latheefa lashes out at The Star

PUCHONG: Newly appointed Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Latheefa Koya has lashed out at English daily The Star Online to task over an article entitled “No cronyism involved in Azmin’s case, says Latheefa.”

“This is not true. My comment this morning as that I am not involved in the matter. No question on cronyism was ever asked. Nor did I ever say that my deputy will issue a statement as reported by The Star,” she said via Twitter.

“The Bernama news report correctly reflects what I said,” she added.

This is regarding allegations of corruption by Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali who was accused of corruption by Haziq Aziz who initially claimed that Azmin was corrupt during his term as Selangor Menteri Besar.

Haziq also claimed that Azmin was the man with him in a series of gay sex video clip that was viralled via WhatsApp.

The MACC recently cleared Azmin of the allegations even as Latheefa confirmed that she would be staying out of the probe.

A check by The Leaders Online showed that the article is no longer available online.

Initially there were concerns as Latheefa as she was PKR supreme council member who was seen to be in favor of Azmin.

She further clarified that she had said that no one would be exempted by the anti-graft body.

This is not the first time the English daily got into trouble.

Penang exco Dr Afif Bahardin had taken the daily to task for its report on Haziq which he claimed to be unsuitable for children
