Latheefa Koya – the new MACC chief
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has confirmed the appointment of human rights lawyer Latheefa Koya as the new Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s chief commissioner.
According to the statement from PMO, the Agong has given the consent for Latheefa’s appointment.
Latheefa who is currently Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) executive director has been appointed as the chief commissioner effective from June 1st on a contract basis over a two-year period.
This appointment is among the new steps taken in the process of reforming government institutions,” said PMO in the statement.
Latheefa who was a PKR supreme council member also has confirmed that she has already the political party in a Twitter message to Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil.
The appointment comes following the decision of chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull who shortened his contract that was supposed to end on May 17, 2020.
In a related development, it is confirmed that lawyer Melissa Sasidaran would be taking over as LFL’s new executive director.
