Kulasegaran: New minimum wage recommendations to be submitted next year

BENTONG: The Minimum Wage Consultation Technical Committee is expected to send in their recommendations on the new minimum wage rates by August 2020, announced Human Resources Minister M Kulasegaran.

He said that the committee is in the midst of obtaining the views of the stakeholders.

“Once a suitable rate is finalised, the committee would present their recommendation to me so that I can table it to the cabinet before it is finalised and announced to the people,” he told reporters after launching the Karak Medical Camp in SMK Karak Setia today.

He said this in response to the calls from Malaysian Youth Council that urged the federal government to raise the minimum wage to RM1,500 as a measure to reduce the burden of the people, especially the younger generation.

MYC president Jufitri Joha has been reported as saying that the current rate of RM1,100 is insufficient due to the rise in the cost of living.
