Kiwi man found dead on Labuan jetty marina

LABUAN: A New Zealand citizen was found dead with injuries on top and behind his head on the Labuan jetty marina on Sunday afternoon (Nov 10).

Labuan police chief Supt. Muhamad Farid Ahmad said Barry James Stanley, 63, a part-time teacher in Brunei had just arrived at the jetty from Brunei with his compatriot.

“It was around 12 noon (Sunday) when the deceased arrived with his friend from Brunei by sailing using their yachts.

“The decreased’s friend, Alistair Charles Muir was assisting him to tie up the boat at the dock, before he was going for lunch at a leading hotel nearby, he added.

Farid, however, said the friend was shocked to see the deceased was lying helplessly (clad in short pants and t-shirt) and bleeding in his mouth on the jetty pathway after returning from lunch around 2pm.

“He shouted for help at the security guard in the guardhouse and with the help from a Bruneian, they conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him but to no avail.

“When the ambulance arrived 15 minutes later, the deceased was brought to the hospital and pronounced dead at 2.45 pm,” he said.

The investigation was still ongoing and the cause of death was still being ascertained.
