Kit Siang willing to quit politics without PM Anwar, will Tok Mat?

SANDAKAN: Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang is willing to quit from politics altogether if Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad does not honor the agreement to hand over the top post to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“If Mahathir does not pass the Prime Minister’s post to Anwar and instead dissolve Parliament to call for early 15th general elections, I will retire from politics and will not contest in the 15th general election,” said Lim during a ceramah last night.
He said this in reaction to Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan, better known as Tok Mat, who remarked that Mahathir would not hand over the premiership as promised to Anwar.
On that note Lim dared Mohamad to withdraw from politics altogether if Mahathir kept his word.
“I have more confidence in Mahathir and I am prepared to have a wager with Mohamad that Mahathir will honour the Pakatan Harapan commitment to pass the Prime Minister’s post to Anwar,” he said.
“If Mahathir keeps to his word and passes the Prime Minister’s post to Anwar, then Mohamad will withdraw from politics and will not contest in the 15th general election,” he added.
Lim also gave Mohamad two days to decide whether the latter would accept the dare to quit bet.
Dr Mahathir has a gentleman agreement to handover his top post to Anwar prior to leading Pakatan Harapan into victory in the 14th general election last year.
Mat Hassan meanwhile declined the bet on the basis that he is a practising Muslim.
