King Charles conveys National Day message to Sultan Ibrahim, praises partnership and shared Commonwealth values
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — King Charles III and Queen Camilla have conveyed their congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and the people of Malaysia on the country’s National Day on Monday.
In the message shared by the British High Commission in Malaysia, King Charles expressed confidence that the UK-Malaysia Strategic Partnership would provide a valuable opportunity to deepen cooperation between the two countries in trade, technology and other shared priorities ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.
“In particular, I hope that our two nations will continue to champion the transition to clean energy and the protection of nature and biodiversity, including through our joint leadership of the international Forest, Agriculture and Commodity Trade Dialogue.
“In this regard, I very much hope that the dialogue continues to foster cooperation and action on the ground, helping to advance sustainable commodity supply chains and strengthen the livelihoods and resilience of farming communities,” he said in the message to Sultan Ibrahim.
He noted that the contribution of smallholder farmers to food security is critically important across the Commonwealth.
Meanwhile, King Charles also reflected upon the enduring partnership between the two nations, rooted in the shared values and mutual respect that define the Commonwealth.
“I remain deeply proud of the role our family of nations plays in fostering understanding, cooperation and opportunity across the globe,” he said, adding that the longstanding educational ties between Malaysia and the United Kingdom exemplify this spirit of partnership by connecting people and empowering future generations.
King Charles said the Commonwealth’s collective strength and unity were more vital than ever in these times of global uncertainty.
“I look forward to the opportunity for our nations to come together at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November, where we may reaffirm our shared commitments and chart a course for the future,” he added.
